Bern O’Donoghue
Bern O’Donoghue is a Brighton based socially engaged artist. Connection and permission are recurring themes in her work. Addressing social and political issues, her process led practice explores the means in which simple artistic activities can be catalysts for progressive change.
Since 2010, Bern has employed immersive projects and installation to examine the power of words to shape perception. Through this work the artist visually explores the notion of ‘other’, creating a safe space for strangers to have nuanced conversations on the overlap between the notion of ‘us’ and ‘them’.
Her current work, ‘Dead Reckoning’ & ‘Our Common Threads’ offers a fragile reminder that people on the move are individuals in need of help, whilst at the same time generating discussion and emotional engagement that reaches beyond statistics or headlines.
