Public art – Themes, Ideas, Look and Feel
Building on ideas from our previous session, this interactive online workshop dives deeper into the creative process behind public art. Together, we’ll explore the themes, functions, materials, and colours that could shape a potential artwork along the River Ouse in Kempston. Through guided discussion and visual inspiration, we’ll consider what stories the artwork might tell, what messages it might carry, and how it could interact with the riverside environment and local community.
Led by artist and public art producer Sam Williams, this session breaks down the key things artists think about when designing public work — from its emotional tone to its practical role. Whether you joined the first session or are coming in fresh, you’ll be supported to share your ideas and imagine what this future artwork could become.
No creative experience is needed — just bring your perspective and curiosity.
These online sessions feed into a series of community co-design events as part of our wider River/ Flow Connect project.
