News News News

January 2022

News News News is a television news show made by children for adults, recorded in front of a studio audience and broadcast live on the internet.

Bedford Creative Arts in partnership with The Place Bedford, invited Andy Field and Beckie Darlington to our town to bring a news show with a difference.

News News News is a television news show made by children for adults, recorded in front of a studio audience and broadcast live on the internet. Working with artists Andy Field and Beckie Darlington, 10 children from Priory Primary presented bulletins from Bedford, offering a distinctive look at what’s going on right here and right now.

Through story-telling, research and acting, News News News empowers school children to find their voice by sharing their views of the place where they live. News, News, News also reflects on the value of journalism by imitating and representing modern forms of media.

How does News News News work?

Artists Andy Field and Beckie Darlington worked alongside 10 children from Priory Lower School for three weeks in January 2022. Andy and Beckie helped them decide what kind of news they want to tell and then assisted their investigations around town to record and present it!

The live performance

The final performance was a site-specific, interactive theatre show performed at The Place on Saturday 29th January 2022. The audience assisted the children in gathering some last-minute news for their show, before watching the show itself being filmed and broadcast from a child-size television news studio on stage.

News, News, News is a companion piece to Lookout, which was presented by Andy Field with BCA and Shortstown Primary School in 2017.

Originally commissioned by Cambridge Junction and Norfolk & Norwich Festival, with support from Stobbs New Ideas Fund and a Cambridge City Council Public Art Grant.

This project was supported using public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Bedford Borough Council
