Make Way For Culture

Make Way for Culture is a funded programme of activity championed by Central Bedfordshire Council in partnership with The Royal Opera House Bridge that aims to increase collaboration between the education and cultural sectors in Central Beds.

It aims to achieve this by

  1. embedding a commitment to joined up cultural activity across Central Bedfordshire
  2. creating a formal vehicle for developing and programming cultural activity, and
  3. developing and nurturing a vibrant cultural landscape in Central Bedfordshire

The programme is made up of the following strands of activity:

Pioneering Partnerships

This programme is designed to build relationships between two key venues in Central Bedfordshire (The Grove and Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre), their local libraries and three of their neighbouring schools.

Through facilitated sessions the cohort will work together to build and test a schools and children’s and young people’s offer.  This will include piloting new events and receiving support to build in Arts Award. Inspiring music (the music service for Central Beds) will also be a partner in this programme.

The cultural venues will be supported in their journey by Full House Theatre who will be providing training on creative programming through their Next Steps initiative.

The activity will be delivered in the academic year term 20-21.

The Culture Hub

The Culture Hub is a partnership of key cultural providers in Central Bedfordshire with a remit and interest in creative and cultural activity that engages with schools, young people and families.

The meetings are held in a variety of Central Bedfordshire cultural venues, have a rolling chair, will grow in membership (by invitation) and will feed into a possible future Local Cultural Education Partnership for Central Bedfordshire.

It is allied to the ROHB Central Bedfordshire Creative Network for schools.

Make Way for Culture Open Events

During the programme early consultation and communication with the wider community of interest in Central Bedfordshire will be undertaken through Open Events.

These events will share the progress of the various strands of the project. All participants and other interested parties are invited.

Details of events will be shared on our webpage later in the year.
