You are only the sum of your data.
In Spring 2017 Bedford Creative Arts brought dance-tech innovators Pell Ensemble to Bedford to present their new interactive dance performance, David, and complete a residency in Putnoe Primary School and Mark Rutherford Upper School.
Through a series of dance and coding workshops in May 2017 delivered by choreographer Rebecca Evans, students from both schools developed performances that would feature in the David experience at The University of Bedfordshire Theatre Studio on 5 & 6 June 2017.
Welcomed by the students, the audience was led into the world of EPOQ: a place where your data becomes a Lived Experience™ and introduced to David, a performer that would soon be controlled by the digital decisions the audience would make.
By employing the audience to use their mobile phones to influence David’s movements and the projections around them, the performance considers how data-gathering shapes our world and sense of self, and questions our possible future in human and digital form.
David is a collaboration between Pell Ensemble, interactive designers Indivisible Arts, Clarisse O’Dell and David Altweger. Sound-score by Ehud Freedman, text and dramaturgy by Adam Peck. Produced by Step Out Arts. Photo courtesy of Mira Loew.
