For our third Artists’ Supper we were joined by artist duo DashnDem who are currently working with us on a new art commission centred around transformative politics, activism, counterculture and utopian thinking. They led an evening of discussion and debate, to plot a revolution for the future of artists on our own terms.
Inspired by William Morris’ ‘News From Nowhere’, one of the most significant English works on the theme of utopia, the group were invited to engage in a card game where they were asked to imagine themselves as citizens of nowhere in the year 2102. This led to discussion on what would have changed in order for us to reach a utopian Bedford.
Previous projects by DashnDem, working with Bedford Creative Arts and the people of Bedfordshire are the billboard commission Bedford Voices and the post-punk commission Dump It On Parliament Revisited .
The Artists’ Suppers offer rich conversation paired great food and the opportunity for local artists to meet, connect, share and get to know one another.
