Bedford composer Johnny Parry has rewritten his composition An Anthology of All Things for a full Symphony Orchestra in Germany. Having inspired Bremen University with this piece originally created for and with his local community in Bedford.
This project began in 2012 when Bedford Creative Arts commissioned Parry to write an ambitious new suite of songs with a locally sourced pool of non-professional singers. Unique donations of personal statements were collected from all around the world as well as locally in Bedford and these were pieced together to make the lyrics for the eight movements of the work. People from the Bedfordshire community were brought together to volunteer their voices to the composition which expresses the universal themes of love, death, childhood and religion.
Now, as part of their own project, The Bremen University choir will come to Bedford to perform the piece together with the Bedford Community Arts Choir.
A choir member commented that ‘The songs are about the stuff of life, the stuff that cannot be bought or sold. The lyrics are contributed and universal of memorable experiences and remarkable journeys. This was a generous, big hearted, open adventure and together we are making something raw and unique written by the people using personal statements to create a new cycle of songs’.
