Future Towns

We are inviting you to travel into the future with us in a series of fun, creative workshops, and bring back your very own souvenir of the future.

For our Future Towns commission artist, Sadie Hennessy will be appearing at cultural events in and around Bedford over the next twelve months.

First, you will create your own part of a long, collaged mural depicting a glorified vision of Bedford’s real-life people and places to make a fantastical vision for a Bedford of the future. Then we’ll use images from your collages to make souvenir badges, rosettes, commemorative soaps and ceramics.

The finished mural will be showcased alongside souvenirs that have been made in an exhibition at the end of the project.

For our first outing, Sadie was at The River Festival in July 2018. This was closely followed up by Futur-oke, where Sadie invited you to get dressed up in space-age costumes and sing songs about space and the future, as part of The Philharmonia’s Virtual Orchestra Fringe in August. In October we visited BedPop Fun Palace at the Higgins Bedford, where over the course of a series of workshops participants contributed to the mural and took away a commemorative soap.

Up next is Future Towns at BedPop Science Lab on 16 March 2019.
