Bedford Creative Arts is looking for a filmmaker to create a short film or documentary about our summer commission Concerto Magnificent: An Anthology of All Things.

Bedford Creative Arts is a contemporary arts organisation that has worked in the town for over 25 years. We are committed to commissioning quality art working with local communities. We seek to question and explore genuine artistic collaboration and what it means to commission with communities.

For our summer 2012 commission we’re working with Bedford-based composer Johnny Parry, who creates operatic contemporary music for orchestra and voice. Expect grand gestures of love and death expressed through an all-consuming spectacle.

Throughout the summer Johnny will bring together a big-hearted army of people to develop a cycle of songs, written and performed in collaboration with the public.

Johnny is working with the people of Bedfordshire to aggregate lyrics within the universal themes of Love, Death, Childhood and Religion. He will then bring together a new community choir and orchestra to rehearse and finally perform the songs at a premier performance at Bedford Corn Exchange.

We are looking for a filmmaker to document this process and the resulting performance.

There is a fee of £1000 (inclusive of any VAT) available for the project, to include all filming, editing and post production.

The resulting film will be screened at an event in Bedford in the new year, and shared online via Bedford Creative Arts’ website and social media channels.

Filming will need to begin in July. We expect the film to include footage of some of the rehearsals throughout the summer, interviews with the composer and other key collaborators throughout the process, and the premier performance on 27th September.

To apply please send a short statement detailing your interest in the project and why you think you’re the right person for the job, a copy of your CV, and web links to examples of relevant previous work.

Deadline for applications is noon Friday 6th July 2012

Apply by email to Curator Producer Jennie Stoddart at jennies@bedfordcreativearts.org.uk
