On Saturday 2nd November we are celebrating the CD launch of An Anthology of All Things.

An epic achievement of people power, generosity, joyous collaboration and hard work.

Over 600 people donated lyrics to produce 8 new songs, a choir of 50 accompanied by a 30 strong orchestra performed to a capacity audience of 400; 300 people pledged their cash to make this recording. You helped make this magnificent CD happen.

6 – 7.30pm at The Auction Rooms, 1 Duke St, Bedford, MK40 3HR

Bedford based composer and songwriter Johnny Parry was commissioned by Bedford Creative Arts to produce An Anthology of All Things last year.
Comprising of eight movements, the libretto is made up from hundreds of unique personal statements donated by you the public.
From “You have a lovely bum dear” to “I have a manly beard”.

To collect your words we ran lyric making workshops with community groups, in schools and with other charities. People also donated their personal statements online and through facebook. Johnny Parry crafted the libretto for these eight movements from your words, writing all the music for this ambitious new work.
Over the summer a new choir of local people came together, we didn’t audition, no judgements were made about singing ability, this was and is a generous choir.

This big hearted army of 50 singers first performed this new work last September, accompanied by The Johnny Parry Chamber Orchestra.

Now through your donations, generously given through we have recorded a magnificent CD which will be available to buy at the launch on 2nd Nov for £8.00.

The CD launch will be followed at 7.30pm by a concert by the Johnny Parry Chamber Orchestra at Bedford Corn Exchange, tickets £8.00.

The Orchestra will perform extracts of An Anthology of All Things alongside a comprehensive selection of other works old and new. Expect grand gestures of love and death, and an unashamed commitment to both the romantic and the unusual, alongside a backdrop of films made by international artist Andy Holden.

The Johnny Parry Chamber Orchestra is a unique ensemble of over thirty players. Fully armed with strings, woodwind, brass and opera singers they have recorded six studio albums.

Opinion: Which tribe are you?

As Grayson Perry has observed, “most people want to fit in with their tribe in some way or another, so they give off signals, whether it’s with their clothes, their behavior, their car, their whatever, and gain status . . . and the signals are an unconscious display of who you are and where you
