Camera-less filmmaking at the BedPop Fun Palaces

Event Description

In October 2016 Bedford Creative Arts took part in the BedPop Fun Palaces with a camera-less filmmaking workshop led by artist and filmmaker Joanna Byrne.

In this open access workshop BedPop participants created their own handmade animation by drawing, painting and scratching directly onto the surface of 16mm film. The films were then projected in the museum, giving participants the opportunity to see (and hear) their creations come to life…

Joanna Byrne

Joanna Byrne is a photographer, filmmaker and creative educator. She is interested in the tactile and material properties of celluloid; hand-processing, working directly onto the film’s surface, and salvaging and repurposing ‘found’ footage. As well as making and screening her own and others’ work, she teaches hands-on, experimental filmmaking to people from all walks of life.
